Why Do People Believe Memes?

Dear Trump Supporters…

Sure…

I suppose first we should ask, Why do you believe this meme?

I don’t mean to throw shade on the wonderful organization known as “Ridin’ With Biden” but seriously, in what world do you expect them to present you with accurate, unbiased, truthful information?

Lets just say they seem to have an interest in disparaging Donald Trump and making anything he’s done seem not so great. So really, I should be asking you to verify these claims.

I’ll just ignore all that though… I’ll forget the obviously bogus source and I’ll refrain from asking for whatever research you have(n’t?) done on these subjects.

Mostly because you said please 🙂

Lets break each one of these statements down one by one.

Statement One:

“Only 3 miles of wall have been built”

mmk. So this false claim is based on a HuffPost article (another clearly dubious source) that is very carefully worded.

It says things like “steel fence” making one think of this

to describe things that look like this

That is not a steel fence. That is a 30 ft tall steel wall.

Back to the point though… with their clever wording they say “only three of those 212 miles are along parts of the border that previously had no barrier.” which is where your ridin with biden meme gets its 3 miles claim.

So that might seem like, yep, he only built 3 miles of new wall since 209 miles of “barrier” were already there… but I wonder… what was there previously… hmmm…

Turns out, a combination of fencing like this

and other “barriers” like this

Now obviously the new “barrier” is quite a bit more substantial than the old “barrier”. So to say only 3 miles of wall have been built is an obvious lie. Further to say only 3 miles of “new” wall has been built is a lie, which is why they very, very, carefully say in the linked article only 3 miles of wall “that didn’t already have a barrier”.

This is worded purposefully to give the casual reader or the already anti-Trump biased person the impression that really, only 3 miles have been built, despite the fact that 209 miles were rebuilt and 3 additional miles were added.

Obviously if you are going to build a wall across an entire border you will focus on the highest traffic areas first. Those places already had a barrier but it was ineffective. So it was demolished and 212 miles of glorious new wall was put in it’s place.

Additionally. According to Customs and Border Protection currently an additional 339 miles are under construction with an additional 183 miles in pre-construction. All in all they say 311,000 tons of steel and 458,000 cubic yards of concrete have been used.

Shit, Actually, since that article was published in June it is up to 245 miles completed, 357,000 tons of steel and 522,000 cubic yards of concrete. Looks like the work is ongoing.

I guess one could just say they are just big ol’ liars too though…

That is an awful lot of steel and concrete for 3 miles of “fencing”. Frankly this is amazing considering that congress has been fighting him tooth and nail over border wall funding since day one, which brings us to our next claim…

Statement Two:

“Mexico isn’t paying”

But are they?

I guess that would depend on how literal you want to take the statement “and Mexico will pay for it”. That is half the problem with peoples impression of “the God Emperor, Donald Trump”. The press and his detractors like to take everything he says literal when he is usually being figurative or humorous. Anyhow…

Did Mexico cut Donald Trump a check and say “Ok Don, build that wall, here”.

Well no, they didn’t. I’m not sure if people actually thought that Donald meant that Mexico would cut him a check when he said that. I don’t know. Maybe some people did. It would seem most of his detractors say as much.

I guess if that is what you think, there would be no refuting the claim. Mexico clearly has not cut Donald Trump a check for the border wall.

So if not cutting a check, how is Mexico paying?

Well, for one, the renegotiation of NAFTA goes a long way into reimbursing the United States the cost of the border wall. Under the new rules of the USMCA, spear-headed by Trump, an estimated 76,000 jobs will be created with $34 billion invested into US Auto manufactuirng alone, not counting all the other benefits to other industries.

Is that what Trump meant by “Mexico will pay for it”? Does that seem like a stretch? Well maybe we can clear that up by visiting his campaign website from 2016?

https://web.archive.org/web/20160409064255/https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/immigration-reform

So you don’t have to read the whole thing, here are the relevant quotes…

“There is no doubt that Mexico is engaging in unfair subsidy behavior that has eliminated thousands of U.S. jobs, and which we are obligated to respond to.”

“The cost of building a permanent border wall pales mightily in comparison to what American taxpayers spend every single year on dealing with the fallout of illegal immigration on their communities, schools and unemployment offices.”

So that is a bit up for interpretation.

Something that isn’t.

Mexico sends 15,000 troops to US border

Mexico has sent approximately 15,000 troops to the U.S. border in efforts to control the flow of migrants to the U.S.

We have a total deployment, between the National Guard and army units, of 14,000, almost 15,000 men in the north of the country, Mexico’s Secretary of Defense Luis Sandoval said at a joint press conference with Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador

So, no. Mexico has not cut Donald Trump a check to pay for the border wall, though nobody but his detractors ever took that literally anyhow.

Never the less the renegotiation of NAFTA is taking tax revenue, jobs and investments out of Mexico and bringing it back to the USA and the Mexican government is now paying soldiers to guard and patrol the US, Mexico border at President Trumps request. So you can decide for yourself on that one.

I would say that was clearly a slogan. Does “Defund the police” mean get rid of the police? Does “Black Lives Matter” mean other lives don’t matter? How literally you want to take a slogan is up to you.

Statement Three:

“Hillary is not in jail”

Nope, Hillary is not in jail but Donald Trump never said he was going to put Hillary in jail and it clearly was not a campaign promise. This probably comes from the debate when Trump said to Hillary “because you’d be in jail”.

That was a very clever retort to her as many people do believe she belongs in jail for a vast number of crimes, not the least of them, the uranium one scandal and the shady dealings and pay for play of the Clinton Foundation, for her deletion of over 30,000 subpoenaed emails, for running a private server in her home bathroom that held classified information and I expect coming soon, orchestrating treason. But I digress.

For this meme to imply that the Donald promised to throw Hillary in jail is just ridiculous. I’m not going to waste anymore time on it.

Statement Four:

“Obamacare wasn’t repealed or replaced”

Nope. It wasn’t.

He certainly did try and has not yet given up. It was literally one vote away from being overturned in Donald Trumps first year.

Did he succeed? No. Did he try? Yes. Did he come super close? Yes. Is there a chance he could do it again? Depends on if he is re-elected and if his supporters can re-take congress.

This only didn’t happen because John McCain switched his vote at the last second. So to imply that Donald Trump is a con man because Obamacare wasn’t repealed is fucking stupid. Sorry, no offense. It just is.

Statement Five:

“North Korea and Iran are building nuclear weapons”

No shit. What else is new? Is he supposed to invade these countries?

Donald Trump came closer to peace with North Korea than any president has since the war. President Obama refused to even talk with them.

Iran, Obama gave Billions of dollars to and signed an agreement that made a nuclear Iran more possible.

Once the regime perfects advanced centrifuges, which is allowed under the accord, the Islamic Republic’s nuclear-weapons ambitions cannot be checked. By 2025, Tehran can start assembling these models.

These high-velocity machines require small cascades. Without an extraordinarily lucky human-source intelligence penetration or sloppy Iranian telecommunications, American intelligence services would have no ability to find them hidden in warehouses.

So yeah, Iran and North Korea are still working on their nuclear ambitions. Trump took the USA out of the bad deal with Iran and has been making strides diplomatically with North Korea.

We are in a much better place now than we were in 2016 in regards to both of those countries. In any respect, I could give two shits less if either of them get nukes. Who fucking cares. The worry should be about improvised small nuclear weapons being imported and set off in the USA.

Neither of them have the technology to create an ICBM that would be needed to reach us and frankly it would be suicide for any nation to try.

Never the less to call Trump a con man over these two countries being crazy, is again, ridiculous.

Statement Six:

“There’s no China trade deal”

So this is just a straight up lie. They must be counting on Joe Biden supporters being completely ignorant. I would never make such an assumption. I don’t think they are ignorant, I think they are very well educated but the people giving them information are biased, truth spinners actively and enthusiastically giving out false information.

To prove this is a lie…

I literally found the most well known, anti-trump, leftist publication I could think of to confirm that this is a complete and utter lie. Here, from the New York Times…

1/15/2020 the New York Times writes…

President Trump signed an initial trade deal with China on Wednesday, bringing the first chapter of a protracted and economically damaging fight with one of the world’s largest economies to a close.

The pact is intended to open Chinese markets to more American companies, increase farm and energy exports and provide greater protection for American technology and trade secrets. China has committed to buying an additional $200 billion worth of American goods and services by 2021 and is expected to ease some of the tariffs it has placed on American products.

But the agreement preserves the bulk of the tariffs that Mr. Trump has placed on $360 billion worth of Chinese goods, and it maintains the threat of additional punishment if Beijing does not live up to the terms of the deal.

So this is such Bullshit. No ifs, ands or buts… this is objectively, no nuance a complete fucking lie.

Statement Seven:

“The Deficit has skyrocketed”

Can’t argue with that. The China Virus certainly has a lot to do with that. You can decide if it is fair to blame Trump for virus deficit spending. To say it is going up more than with the last three presidents, which I would assume “skyrocketed” means, is incorrect.

I think it would be fair to compare the last four presidents cumulative debt increase from their inauguration day (source US Treasury Dept.)

The Trump administration clearly was the most fiscally sound of the four and I would argue even with the virus spending will end up way below Obama/Biden. Anyhow, seeing how this is coming from “Ridin’ with Biden” I don’t think they have any room to talk.

Statement Eight:

“race relations have worsened”

No argument there. When did this all start though? It might be useful if someone takes a regular national poll on race relations. Lets see what I can find…

I don’t have much to say on this here, as to do the topic justice would require another article much longer than this one. I would just say for this article that the trend started before Trump was in office. At least according to Gallup Polls.

You can decide if you believe them or not but this data clearly shows race relations took a nose dive in 2013 and have continued since.

Statement Nine:

“tens of millions are unemployed”

C’mon… Really?

The entire Globe just shut down for Five months and continues to. Trump is clearly trying to get the country back open. We can argue about if he is/has done the right things… This is an ongoing, unprecedented situation. History will have to decide as judging without coming out the other end is simply unfair.

A fair judgement would be to look at unemployment before the GLOBAL PANDEMIC started.

According Trading Economics

Unemployment has been on a down-trend the entirety of his term, previous to the GLOBAL PANDEMIC.

Even if you say it is fair to judge him on the high unemployment numbers caused by the GLOBAL PANDEMIC, recent news has this looking up. From the same link…

The US unemployment rate dropped to 11.1 percent in June 2020, easing further from an all-time high of 14.7 percent reached in April and remaining below market expectations of 12.3 percent, as many people returned to the labor market following weeks of coronavirus-induced restrictions. The number of unemployed persons fell by 3.2 million to 17.8 million, while employment rose by 4.9 million to 142.2 million. Although unemployment fell in May and June, the jobless rate and the number of unemployed are up by 7.6 percentage points and 12.0 million, respectively, since February.

So honestly, this just seems like more hot air, objectively speaking.

Which brings us to…

Statement Ten:

“our country is the epicenter of a global pandemic”

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

As of right now, the United States has 4,028,569 positive cases of the virus reported. The next closest is Brazil with 2,166,532. The United States has performed 49,913,063 tests. Brazil has performed 4,911,063.

For every million people in the USA 150,745 have been tested. That’s more than 1 in 10 people. Compare that to Brazil which is 23,095 per million people.

So they have over 50% as many positives as the USA despite testing basically nobody, relatively speaking.

Further, the CDC readily admits that a positive result does not mean you have COV-19. From https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/testing/serology-overview.html

A positive test result shows you may have antibodies from an infection with the virus that causes COVID-19. However, there is a chance a positive result means that you have antibodies from an infection with a virus from the same family of viruses (called coronaviruses), such as the one that causes the common cold.

Gee wiz… anybody ever have the common cold before?

and here is a screenshot just for fun

So seriously, we really have no idea if the positive cases anywhere in the world are actually positive cases.

Calling the USA the epicenter is obviously sensationalist. In any event, like with Statement Nine, we are currently going through this, the only fair assessment would be to look back later and see how effective his policies were.

The one thing we can say, he shut down travel from China, and Biden (and I imagine his buddies at Ridin’ with Biden) called him xenophobic and said it was a hysterical idea that had no basis in science. Everyone now agrees it was the right move. That everybody includes Joe Biden.

Anyhow… on to the next Statement…

Statement Eleven:

“You Got Played By A Con Man”

I refer you to my replies to the previous Ten statements.

Conclusion:

Well I hope you made it this far. I stayed up extra late and worked really extra super mega hard. I tried my best to find objective sources (except where otherwise noted) to refute each and every claim made by this stupid meme.

The conclusion is, the con man is the person who made this meme, the con man is the media that spins and spreads these false narratives. Unfortunately, we are the marks. It sucks.

You can hate Trump all you want. Doesn’t bother me. I was a Gary Johnson voter and this year will be voting for Kanye West.

The problem I have and what I try to rectify to the best of my ability is all of the false information out there. News authorities on both sides of the debate actively lie, though everyone for some reason believes their biased sources while damning the others biased sources.

FOX News and MSNBC have always been well known sources of biased information. They have been entertainment news. To be taken with a grain of salt. They found a profitable model. Now all news is more than happy to take up that model. CNN in particular is insidious because they still pretend to be impartial despite an obvious extreme anti-trump bias.

It is getting harder and harder to find a trust-worthy news source these days. Finding true news about Donald Trump is even harder. It all has a spin this or that way, the majority of it negative.

I can speculate on why that is but that is a topic for a later article.

Anyhow, I doubt any of this will change your mind on any of the statements made in the meme referenced above. I don’t mean that as a personal attack, only as a matter of fact.

That is the point after all, the meme was created to exploit your natural bias, to rile you up and spread that false information on to the next person.

That’s what memes do. That is their intended purpose. If you were actually curious about any of this you could of found all of this out for yourself, without me having to spend my Tuesday night writing this up for you. It’s all there just waiting to be read and parsed.

I just hope, next time, before you share some dumbass meme on dumbass facebook that you at least think for a second if any of it is actually verifiable or just an opinion. Feel free to share your opinion all you want but know it is an opinion. Having an opinion that something is a fact, does not make it a fact.

That’s the thing.

Thanks and don’t forget….

Vote Kanye 2020!!!!!!!

Time to make the White House the West House!
